Entry 9 – February 13, 2010

My apologies for not updating my blog nearly as regularly as I have been. “Our” internet has been super flaky, plus we have been at work most of the time, so it has been slightly less exciting. However, as penance for not posting as much, I am including a picture of some graffiti we found outside our building at BME. It is some C code that prints out something I can’t fully translate. Underneath is a circuit schematic for an amplifier.

Anyway, today I am posting an entire week’s worth of journal, so here goes!

This weekend was ESN’s Freshman Camp. We all got on a big bus and went for a two hour drive out to Eger. This town is famous for a number of things, primarily for it’s castle which was able to fend off a strong Turkish invasion, but also for it’s wine brewery.

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I had to wake up early to get to school by nine, but once we got there it was a pretty good time. We started off with a completion of the previous day’s discussion about course schedules (I need to take a culture course as part of my program, but I think I might take an Intro to Hungarian Language course as well). Following that was a brief lecture about the history of Hungary, which was pretty interesting. I probably would have paid more attention had I not been so tired, but it was still good. Next on the agenda was a 3 hour lecture on Hungarian language. It was much more interactive, so it was easier to pay attention/stay awake.

After a bit of a late night, I slept in kind of late on the 2nd. Our intent was to get to school before noon to do our student cards, but we were all pretty beat, so we took our time making breakfast and checking our emails. I was once told that I am mildly intolerant to eggs, which basically means that I can’t eat large quantities of eggs without feeling a little ill, but this was long ago and I was kind of craving some egg seeing the other guys eat it every day, so I decided to have a small portion, hoping I had grown out of the intolerance. Later in the day, my stomach wasn’t all too happy (though I could have been imagining things), so I’m not sure I’ll be keeping that one up.

Saturday was a bit of a busy day again. We did get to sleep in, but after breakfast we set off to sweep, vacuum, and mop our entire apartment. We hadn’t done that since we moved in and, since no one took their shoes off while viewing the flat, the floors were quite dirty. Now we can walk around in socks/barefoot and not get totally gross! We also got over a foot of snow that morning, so none of us really felt like going outside. There isn’t really any green space here, so all the snow just turns to nasty brown slush.
